We interrupt our regularly scheduled blog to announce that Texas gave us a wonderful, unexpected sighting of eleven javelina at the Bentsen-Rio Grand State Park bird refuge in the southwestern corner of the state. It then gave us six more rooting around in a ditch along the road.
Clap three times if you believe javelina exist, because we do (clap, clap clap)!
We’ve been looking for them nearly every day for four months and in three states. Texas comes through!

They’re nasty, those beasts!
Early on, we were warned to keep Ruthie far away from them, so when we came upon the squadron (herd) of them, we immediately got her out of sight so they wouldn’t chase her down and commit murder upon her. We were also near the park’s gift shop, and ready to make a run for it if they came our way. They did see us (and a mother and son who were also looking at them), but paid no attention. We kept our distance and used the zoom on the camera and our binoculars to enjoy them.
